CurlSmith – #emptiesreview

Product Review: CurlSmith

CurlSmith is formualted to work on curly, wavt textured or dry hair.

There’s something about using gourmet products in your hair and I am so happy that I bought the CurlSmith – Food for Curls line. They turned out to be moisture-rich food for my thirsty waves. šŸ™‚

What I liked most about this line:

  • Lightweight products that don’t weigh the hair down
  • Most ingredients are ones you actually find in your kitchen
  • Pleasant, mild aroma that is consistent in all products, doesn’t leave you feeling heady
  • More moisture with a tinge of protein to works throughout the year in Indian humid conditions

What I used and how:

Curl Quenching Conditioning Wash

This is a complete no-lather, non-foaming co-wash with enough surfactants to remove buildup and dirt. It is advised to apply the co-wash to scalp and hair, massage it in gently. Thereafter wait for 3 minutes,  and then detangle, use squish to condish to remove conditioner as required. I would leave a coin-size in the ends for easy clumping. The co-wash left my hair soft and adequately moisturized.

The only minus I found was the less amount of product dispensed from the cap. The inflexible bottle made it quite difficult to pump out the product.

Usage: 12oz bottle lasted me for 11 washes

Moisture Memory Reactivator

This has been my favorite product in the CurlSmith line. True to its name, it revives day 2/3 curls like magic. Formulated as a leave-in, primer (curl definer) and a refreshing spray, this is one multi-purpose product that I have always carried in my travel kit. The best part is it contains a balanced mix of moisture and hydration (Glycerin, Aloe, Apricot, Olive etc.) that you can use it on dry hair and reactivate your waves.

Usage: 8oz bottle lasted me for 20 uses

Hold Me Softly Styling Balm

This has been my go-to styling cream in most washes and blends nicely in most wash routines. It is lightweight and offers less or no crunch. Best used after the Moisture Memory Reactivator, the styling balm helps waves clump lightly. If you are a fine-haired wavy and don’t want to use a gel, this is a light scrunch-and-go option.

Usage: 8oz tube has lasted me for 22 uses

Curl Defining Styling Souffle

This is a fantastic option for wavies who want soft bouncy waves, without that hard cast/crunch. It has a light, non-sticky, gel-like consistency and has to be melted well, emulsified between palms and applied to the length of hair and scrunched upwards to create definition. The souffle was not greasy at all. I have had the most, soft, bouncy waves while using the Curl Defining Styling Souffle.

The only minus is since the product is like a jelly and emulsifies well, you don’t know how much you have actually used in your hair. 😦

Usage: 8oz bottle lasted me for 13 uses

Will I buy the CurlSmith products again?

Yes, definitely. I am a BIG fan of CurlSmith products mainly because of its ingredients and the lightweight feeling it lends to my 2b-2c wavy hair. As a newbie wavy, you need products that don’t weigh your hair down and CurlSmith fits the bill perfectly. Plus, unlike other CG products which require a lot of water, CurlSmith line works on damp hair. This has helped me in quick styling on workdays.

Note: The products listed in the review were not sponsored or gifted to me. These were bought by me.

    1. Hi Lisa, welcome to the wavy journey. Clumpimg is basically hair sticking together because of moisture, in this case when you apply your styling products on wet hair, the wetness brings strands into a clump. Good clumps indicate that the stylers will help retain the wavy/curly texture after the hair dries. I have a styling video on my Instagram, please watch it, that wull give you an idea. And I am sure, your hair will get gorgeous and healthy soonest. šŸ™‚
